Toolesboro Mounds Visitor Center Siding Replacement

Toolesboro Mounds Visitor Center Siding Replacement

The Toolesboro Mounds hold significant historical importance and are located in Louisa County, Iowa. An initial survey of the visitor center revealed the need for extensive repairs.

This site is not only listed on the National Register of Historic Places but is also designated as a National Historic Landmark, a State Preserve, and a State Historic Site. It encompasses five acres and features several Hopewell burial mounds, along with a visitor center and museum that house multiple displays.

An initial survey of the visitor center revealed the need for extensive repairs, including replacing the siding, windows, and doors, as well as selective replacement of damaged insulation. Many of these repairs were necessitated by the effects of weathering and the overall aging of the materials.

To address these issues, the existing siding was replaced with similar materials, and PVC trim was added at the base to prevent water infiltration through capillary action. New doors and windows were installed, offering improved thermal performance for the visitor's center. The project was successfully completed in the fall of 2022.
