Jefferson County Courthouse Exterior Improvements

We conducted a comprehensive survey of the building's existing conditions, which identified masonry and window flashing repair needs on this historic building.

The Jefferson County Courthouse, constructed between 1890 and 1893, holds a place of honor on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2019, we conducted a comprehensive survey of the building's existing conditions, utilizing laser point scanning and traditional survey techniques. The survey findings played a pivotal role in determining the scope of the project, which primarily focused on repointing and repairing the exterior masonry and addressing issues related to water infiltration within the interior.

The project's final repairs encompassed several critical aspects, including repointing, consolidating stone elements, selective replacement of masonry, and repairing and installing flashing. To prevent water infiltration and mitigate further masonry deterioration, upgrades were made to the window flashing. All masonry and stone patching details adhered to the guidelines outlined in the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the preservation of historic buildings. The overarching goal was to preserve the existing masonry to the greatest extent possible.
