Muscatine County Community Services Exterior Glazing Replacement

This project involved the total removal and replacement of exterior doors and windows on the building.

The original wood framed, single pane windows were drafty and in disrepair with retrofit storm windows over the majority of the building. The combination of degraded glazing and exterior storms led to a dim interior and frequent occupant complaints of low natural light levels. The new glazing is a combination of thermally broken storefront and curtain wall with insulated glazing units. The glass was selected to optimize visible light while blocking thermal gain. The profiles and mullions are carefully configured to match the original patterning and color of the original windows. A carved wood panel from the original entrance is retained, refinished and reinstalled in the original location behind the new glazing to preserve the character. The result is a much more energy efficient, bright work space with a much cleaner look on the exterior of the building that pays homage to the original styling.
