Horizon Architecture Office and Follies

My father once told me that you’ll never be done building your home and, in my experience, that couldn’t be closer to the truth.

Whenever I think we’re just about done another idea pops up and away we go. A neighbor suggested I find a single piece of wood and paint it pink to say “that’s what’s left”. Over the 5 years we have lived in our humble 1960’s walkout, there isn’t much that hasn’t been touched. The exterior remains our playground with the addition of an accessory building based on an 18’ diameter grain bin (that was the easy part!) that contains a fabrication studio on the lower level and a multi-use space on the main level, accessible from the expanded deck. The deck features a spiral slide and stair – opposite directions of twist to avoid dizziness.

Our front yard is another area for experimentation – the southern exposure and slope made this the logical spot for our dense raised bed garden. We keep working to keep the biomass contained with a recent project to dress up the “hoops” and, hopefully, contain the sunflowers.

Contractor – Yours truly.
